On the bog trail

For a new feature, I am focusing on local parks. This week is Beaver Lake Nature Center on Mud road in Baldwinsville. In the year plus that we have live here we never got a chance to see Beaver Lake Nature Center, until this summer. Beaver Lake is part of the Onondaga County Park system. It is $5 per car to enter; you can also pay a membership fee. There are several trails that go through the woods. We went on the bog trail and the lake view trail. One of the trails is 3 miles, for this trip we stuck to ones less than a mile. The trails are well kept and clearly marked. There is a visitors center that had rest rooms, a gift shop, a cafeteria, a place to watch birds and more. My kids loved the visitors center. They also have a sensory garden, where you can touch, taste, and smell some plants. They had a summer reading scavenger hunt. My son was excited to find the box of two books along the trail. Beaver Lake also offers summer camps and events weekly. It is open year round.

Book Scavenger Hunt box.
