Father's Day gift ideas

for young children

If you have a young child, it can be hard sometimes to find the perfect gift for Father's Day. Here are some easy and inexpensive DIY ideas for young children to make or buy.


1. D-A-D or D-A-D-D-Y spelled out with kids Cost $3 ($1 per letter)

-I found the letters at Michael's 

-I had each kid hold one letter; and both hold the middle A

-It's easy, inexpensive and you could do it year after year to see how the kids have grown. 


2. Make a Daddy coffee mug. Total cost in the range of $5-$10

-Find a white or ivory ceramic mug at Walmart or another store ($2-3)

-Paint Markers (I found at Walmart for about $3)

-Letter stickers at an arts and crafts store or Walmart about $3

-Spell Daddy or Dad on the mug; 

-Decorate mug with paint markers and more

-Put mug in oven for about 30 minutes at 400 degrees F.

-Remove from oven and peel off stickers. It should spell dad in the colored area

-DO NOT put mug in dishwasher


3. Make a card (varies in price)

-Use any material, construction paper, card stock regular paper. 

-Markers, crayons or watercolor paints work well


4. Footprint or handprint tie ($5-10) (Paint at Walmart and canvas too)

-paint the child's foot or hand in whatever color you want

-press foot or hand to paper or canvas 

-draw with permanent marker the shape of a tie.


5. Make a 'daddy' book (varies)

-Print printable pages or create your own

-fill out or have your child fill out their responses

-Color it in

-make a cover out of construction paper

-staple together
