Spring Cleaning

By Alyssa Knutti March 26, 2019

Are you thinking about spring cleaning? Feeling a little overwhelmed?

Here is a step by step guide on how to make spring cleaning less overwhelming and maybe even a little fun.

1. Go one room or one area at a time.

  • Is your office giving you nightmares? Is your garage disorganized?
  • Pick one area and start there.
  • Set aside one day or one hour and work on just that area.
  • Make a list of all the tasks you would like to accomplish

2. Set up a schedule of when cleaning should get done.

  • Set small goals of when the tasks should be done.
  • Microsoft has some great templates in Word and Excel to get you started.

3. Get your kids involved.

  • Starting at about age 2, kids can help in minor ways.
  • Here is a list of age appropriate chores for your kids.

4. Donate, Donate, Donate

  • If you’re purging items, look for local and nationally know organizations that take donations. Salvation Army, The Rescue Mission, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, local disposal events or shredding events.

5. Post Cleaning schedule and Chore chart in a visible area.

  • I like the fridge, but a white board or cork board work as well.

6. Don’t be afraid to throw things out.

  • If the item is broken, ratty or doesn’t work, don’t keep it, toss it.

7. Keep cleaning materials in easily accessible areas

  • To help make it easier when I clean, I have all the supplies in one tote and bring that totewith me wherever I go.

8. If you like listening to music while cleaning, blast it.

  • My mom used to listen to the opera on Saturdays when she cleaned. Music helps the tasks gofaster.

9. Totes and baskets are great for storage

  • If you don’t have a lot of storage space, try baskets or bins.
  • Target usually has aisles full of them.

10. Don’t do too much at once.

  • Sometimes, it helps to take breaks between tasks.
